This stunning piece is by Lino Tagliapietra and produced by La Murrina.
This is an incredible rare piece: a few have been on auctions and all of them were without the top disc.
This is at the time of la murrina, before the use of the smalti filigree, which came on the collaboration with effetre, and for such a large piece amethyst and clear was the perfect color combination. The upper plate shows self made filigree (there are some hue differences on the stripes).
It is made when Lino was artist director and primo maestro at La Murrina. Looking closely to the piece, on the cylinder there are two bands of 42 canes each. Probably the clear space is made with clear canes. Whoever has seen rolling up the glass on the bed of filigree understands the skill required to pick two bands of 42 canes exactly opposite. Then blowing with the swirl centered and keeping such a perfect design. The idea behind this sculpture was to cut the cylinder in an angle and have the top vessel staying tilted on the stem, like a flower. Stacking glass pieces is new into murano’s production since their idea was that glass should not touch glass, and this lamp might have been of inspiration to the young chihuly moving his steps at venini and pilchuck. The seaform stacking pieces would come a decade later. It is a vintage piece, therefore it might show slight traces of use, but it can be considered as in excellent original condition.
Measures:
diameter: 58 cm.
Height: 105 – 107 cm
