The spherical reflector sits at the top of a long shaft. It consists of two half-shells, one fixed and one adjustable. The inner shell is white and supports the lamp socket in the center. The outer shell is red and can rotate around the inner shell. It serves as a flexible shade for manually controlling the light output. This creates an eclipse effect similar to a solar eclipse. The slender chrome shaft ends in a simple, disc-shaped base. The red color of the lamp head is repeated in the base.
The lamp is in very good condition with signs of wear and patina. The shade and base have a few minor dents. The power cord, switch, and plug have been professionally replaced.
